The Plot
Ryland Grace wakes up alone aboard the Hail Mary, with no memory of who he is or what his mission entails. His two crewmates are dead. Gradually, memories return: Earth is facing extinction. An alien microorganism called Astrophage is absorbing the Sun's energy, causing it to dim and Earth's temperature to plummet. Without a solution, humanity will go extinct within 30 years. Grace must travel to the Tau Ceti star system — the only star unaffected — to find a way to save the human race.
